Joaquin Phoenix Not Phased by Fan Expectations for Joker

Joaquin Phoenix not phased by fan expectations for Joker
Joaquin Phoenix isn't concerned with disappointing fans when his Joker origin movie arrives in theaters next year, or, at least he says as much in a recent interview with Indiewire.
While promoting his upcoming film The Sister Brothers, a Western costarring Jake Gyllenhaal and John C. Reilly, the three time Academy-Award nominated actor opened up about his decision to portray the Clown Prince of Crime, and more or less brushed aside any notion that he was feeling pressure to get his performance right — particularly in the wake of Heath Ledger's now iconic take on the character.
"I could care less," he said. "I don't really think that much about what people think. Who cares, who cares? My approach to every movie is the same. What I'm interested in is the filmmaker and the idea of the character."
In the same interview Phoenix revealed that he had already begun preparing for the role, but admitted the current press tour was making the work somewhat difficult.
"It is ideal to be able to focus on one thing and not do press while you're prepping for something else, which is not working out," he said.
Although Warner Brothers is still moving forward with a Jared Leto starring Joker film, Phoenix's Joker has already gotten the official green light. Written by Scott Silver (The Fighter) and directed by Todd Philips (The Hangover), the film is unique for superhero genre in its relatively small 55-million-dollar budget.
Joker has also managed to attract a couple of solid Hollywood heavyweights, including the legendary Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy and comedian Marc Maron.
Joker is set to begin filming this September, with a release date of October 4, 2019.

Hidden Figures' Allison Schroeder to help write Frozen 2
Following Jennifer Lee's promotion at Disney, writer Allison Schroeder has signed on to help her with the writing for the long-awaited sequel to the 2013 smash hit, Frozen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lee, who scripted and co-directed the first film, will remain as the primary writer on the film; however, due to her promotion to chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios Schroeder will offer assistance on the scripting duties. Schroeder previously worked with the studio on the fantasy dramedy Christopher Robin, which hit theaters earlier this month and has received positive reviews and grossed almost $100 million at the box office.
RELATED: Frozen 2 Details: Everything We Know About the Sequel
The highly-anticipated sequel, Frozen 2, will not only see Lee return to the film, but also see the return of stars Kristen Bell (The Good Place), Idina Menzel and Josh Gad (Murder on the Orient Express), as well as the additions of Sterling K. Brown (This is Us) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld).
The first film was the smash hit of 2013, landing as the highest-grossing animated film of all-time and the highest-grossing film of the year with over $1.2 billion grossed worldwide. Frozen received rave reviews from critics and audiences, winning Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Let It Go," which also reached the top five on the Billboard 100.

Since then Frozen has become a cultural behemoth with toys continuing to sell out, short films set in the world of the film, a ride based on the film in the Norway Pavilion in Epcot, Frozen characters appearing on ABC's Once Upon a Time and in the "Disney On Ice" shows, and a Broadway version of the film.
Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and produced by Peter Del Vecho, Walt Disney Animation Studios' Frozen 2 is slated to open in theaters on November 27, 2019.

Ben is Back Teaser Trailer: Julia Roberts' Son Has Problems
https://ift.tt/2Ml9ndM - youtube channel Ben is Back Teaser Trailer: Julia Roberts' Son Has Problems https://ift.tt/2MLeUul August 24, 2018 at 02:08AM
Julia Roberts is unexpectedly reunited with her (troubled) young adult son in the newly-released teaser trailer for Ben is Back. The drama was written and directed by novelist-turned filmmaker Peter Hedges, who is directing his real-life son (and fellow Oscar nominee) Lucas Hedges here.
Roberts stars in Ben is Back as Holly Burns, a woman whose son Ben (Lucas Hedges) returns home unexpectedly one Christmas Eve, seemingly well-adjusted and problem-free. Unfortunately, Holly soon learns that Ben's previous troubles are far from behind him and, thus, it falls to her to prevent her family from falling completely apart over the day that follows. Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story) costars as Holly's husband and Ben's step-father Neal, along with Kathryn Newton (Blockers) as Ben's biological sister Ivy. For more on that, watch the teaser trailer for Ben is Back in the space above.

The teaser hints that Ben is Back is very much a slice of dysfunctional family drama cut from the same cloth as Peter Hedges' novel-turned movie What's Eating Gilbert Grape (which he also scripted), as well as his directorial debut Pieces of April - a film that, like Ben is Back, revolves around a family gathering over the holidays (Thanksgiving, in that case). It's similarly narrative territory that Roberts seems comfortable operating in at this point, especially after her performance in John Wells' big screen adaptation of Tracy Letts' Southern familial melodrama play, August: Osage County. Roberts ultimately landed an Oscar nod for her efforts in the latter, and it's certainly possible that history will repeat itself here, in that regard.
Lucas Hedges, for his part, should only further establish himself as being a terrific young character actor with his own work on Ben is Back. The actor landed his first acting Oscar nod for Manchester By the Sea and followed that by delivering well-received supporting turns in no less than two Best Picture Oscar nominees last year (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Lady Bird). He will share the screen with some highly accomplished veteran actors yet again this fall, between his performance in Ben is Back and his leading role opposite Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman in Joel Edgerton's LGBTQ+ conversation therapy memoir Boy Erased.
As it were, next month's Toronto International Film Festival will mark the world premiere for two Julie Roberts projects; namely, Ben is Back and the premiere episode for Amazon Studios' dramatic thriller series Homecoming. Boy Erased will also screen at this year's TIFF, along with too many other awards season hopefuls to recount in full here (including, the latest film by Oscar-winning directors Damien Chazelle and Steve McQueen). Ben is Back will have to be something pretty impressive to stand out in a crowd like that, but who knows: it may yet surprise and begin to generate more buzz, following its appearance on the film festival circuit.

Theory: Suspiria's Trailers Are Hiding A Twist In Plain Sight
https://ift.tt/2Ml9ndM - youtube channel Theory: Suspiria's Trailers Are Hiding A Twist In Plain Sight https://ift.tt/2NhAN1l August 24, 2018 at 02:08AM
Warning: Major SPOILERS for Suspiria (1977).
As the latest trailer for Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria reveals, very little in the remake of Dario Argento's horror classic is entirely what it seems. However, while the characters themselves will discover a string of twists throughout their respective journeys, it's possible that one of the film's most unexpected twists is front and center in the trailer alone.
The original Supiria is disorienting to say the least. With Argento's abstract aesthetic, the uncompromising nightmarish framework, and disorienting pace, Suspiria's narrative mystique was almost secondary. Eventually, Suzy (played by Jessica Harper) would discover that the renowned dance academy in which she's been practicing is run by a coven of witches, and that said coven was to blame for the recent string of deaths inside the school. However, it's the unconventional way in which her journey plays out that makes the movie so memorable. So, with Guadagnino's remake edging its way to theaters this fall, fans should expect a similarly unbridled approach. As it so happens, though, the remake appears to be getting a head start with its respective mystery, planting seeds for a potential twist in the trailers. And it all has to do with Tilda Swinton, a mysterious psychoanalyst-turned-actor named Lutz Ebersdorf, and an exploration into Suspiria's expanded universe known as the Three Mothers trilogy.
Related: Suspiria: The Three Mothers Explained
In the upcoming remake, Swinton is playing Suspiria's main villain, Markos Dance Academy's artistic director Madame Blanc. She's one of many witches within the dance academy's coven, with nothing but sinister intentions for the academy's newest student Susie Bannion (played by Dakota Johnson). As it so happens, though, it's been theorized that Swinton is playing yet another role: that of Dr. Jozef Klemperer. However, despite the blatant proof opposing this theory (Guadagnino has denied these rumors), there is strong evidence in its defense - namely that this mysterious Lutz Ebersdorf might not even really exist.
Tilda Swinton's Secret Role
Lutz Ebersdorf's IMDb bio details a rich history of non-acting jobs, highlighting an extensive background in philosophy and psychology. In fact, it specifically refers to Gestalt psychology (which suggests that the whole of something is more important the sum of its parts), Psychodrama (in which the dramatization of someone's life is utilized as a form of therapy), and a psychoanalytic treatment called Kleinian technique (in which the focus is aimed at mother-daughter relationships, as well as awakening the unconscious). Given that it's impossible to track down the real Ebersdorf, as well as that his personal studies just so happen to tie nicely into Suspiria's theatrical and psychological exploration of the female mind, it's not difficult to make the leap that Ebersdorf is as fictional as Suspiria's plot, and that Swinton, not this mysterious psychoanalyst, is playing Dr. Klemperer.
This would all mean that the creative minds behind Suspiria created a fake IMDb page, so as to throw off inquisitive theorists - and it wouldn't be the first time this has been done. Star Trek Discovery had created a fake IMDb profile in order to hide a major twist that fans had been theorizing over (though it ultimately wasn't successful, as fans easily figured out that it was a sham).
Who Is Dr. Klemperer?
While Swinton might be (and most likely is) playing Dr. Klemperer, it begs the question who Dr. Klemperer really is. The most likely idea is that he is essentially a reimagining of Udo Kier's Dr. Frank Mandel in the original movie. Dr. Mandel's role was to confirm that the instructors at the dance academy were evil, helping Suzy figure out a way that might defeat them, and Dr. Klemperer appears to be taking on a similar duty. That said, if this does turn out to be the case, why have Swinton play the role?
Related: Suspiria's Main Cast: Then and Now
Given that the villains in Suspiria are witches, Madame Blanc may have some kind of supernatural hold on him, which might explain the slight physical likeness; perhaps this is Guadagnino's interpretation of possession (which is already a strong theme in the trailer, with Madame Blanc saying, "When you dance the dance of another, you make yourself in the image of its creator.") However, if possession is in the cards, then this opens up the possibility that Dr. Klemperer might even share similarities to yet another character; someone who isn't in the original Suspiria, but its sequel, Inferno - a character named Varelli.
Varelli built homes for the Three Mothers (one in Germany, one in Rome, and one in New York), and was literally their slave. So, supposing Guadagnino plans on exploring the entire gamut of Argento's original trilogy in a single movie, this character may well turn out to be a strange amalgam of both Dr. Mandel and Varelli - a mostly original character who is sincerely attempting to help defeat the witches, but struggling with Madame Blanc's preternatural grasp.
If nothing else, this updated take on familiar faces would certainly help in keeping fans of the original Suspiria on their toes.

Laurie Strode Prepares for A Fight In New Halloween 2018 Image
https://ift.tt/2Ml9ndM - youtube channel Laurie Strode Prepares for A Fight In New Halloween 2018 Image https://ift.tt/2w9MT6l August 24, 2018 at 02:08AM
A new still from Halloween 2018 features Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) preparing for Michael Myers new homecoming. Due to the Halloween franchise's twisty continuity, Laurie has had a very unusual journey. In Halloween II it was revealed she's actually Michael Myers sister, which is why the killer returned home for her. Curtis made the decision to leave the horror genre following the second film, so she's absent from Halloween IV, which reveals Laurie had a daughter and died in a car accident between movies.
Curtis was later convinced to return for Halloween: H20 to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary, with the movie pretending Halloween IV to VI never happened. Despite seemingly killing Michael in the finale, the opening scene of Halloween: Resurrection reveals she killed an imposter instead, and Michael finally succeeds in killing her. Now Blumhouse's Halloween 2018 will untangle all that complicated backstory by simply ignoring the other entries and only acknowledging John Carpenter's original film.
Related: Blumhouse Interested In Resurrecting Other Classic Horror Franchises
This alternate timeline means Laurie Strode is back once more, and she'll face off with Michael – who is no longer her brother – 40 years after his original rampage. Halloween 2018's story reveals Laurie has prepared for his return for decades, and a new still from USA Today shows she's ready for a fight.
While some fans are a little upset Halloween 2018 will simply plaster over later sequels, there isn't much else that could be done. In fact, early drafts by co-writers Danny McBride and David Gordon Green tried to incorporate the lore from later entries, only to find it impossible to reconcile. That said, Halloween 2018 will feature numerous Easter egg nods to those follow-ups and will feature a vocal cameo by Dr Loomis, played by a soundalike of the late, great Donald Pleasence.
Curtis has since revealed her original intention with Halloween: H20 was to end the series with some dignity by killing Michael for good, but once she learned the studio wouldn't let that happen, she tried to back out. She was contractually bound to make it, however, which is why she insisted on Laurie's death in Resurrection. The storylines of H20 and Halloween 2018 are quite similar, leading to some speculation it could fulfil her ambition to kill Michael for good. Then again, Jason Blum recently said sequels were possible if the movie performs well, so maybe Michael will live to slash another day.

The Happytime Murders Review:
It's not the worst idea in history – in fact it's a good enough idea that at least two other filmmakers have already had it – but The Happytime Murders has no idea what to do with its premise. It's too satisfied with sitting back and letting its puppets curse and have sex and do drugs and assume that's entertainment enough. But it is not.
More than 10 years in the making, Happytime Murders brings the Henson's fabled Muppets out of television and into the real world, a real world full of corruption and temptation they are more than willing to wallow in. It's the perfect place for a Muppet PI like Phil Philips, a former police officer who patrols the dark side of the puppet world, trying to eke out a living and hopefully keep his fellow puppets from being exploited by unfeeling humans. It's also the perfect place for a Muppet PI like Phil Philips to find himself on the wrong side of the law when after cast members of the Happytime Gang suddenly start turning up dead.
The problem with Happytime isn't that it chooses to put its Muppets into aggressively adult situations, trying to squeeze comedy out of children's characters (or at least reasonable facsimile's thereof) cursing and dying and engaging in all manner of illicit activity. The problem is that's the only thing it can do. Director Brian Henson and his long-time Muppet coterie seem so lost in the idea of their puppets engaging in bad behavior they can't seem to do more than watch what they've accomplished with a kind of 'I can't believe we're being allowed to do this' awe which does not transfer to the audience or make up for the fact that there are no jokes. It's briefly funny in its audaciousness, but only briefly. Once that wears off the fact that all of the puppet characters are either drug addicts or prostitutes stops being transgressive and becomes regressive. All of the focus is on the fact of what the puppets are doing and rarely on the why. The Henson technicians have built a Phil Philips puppet which can actually smoke a cigarette so it does in extended long close-ups for no reason whatsoever except to show off that he can do it. That's not an exception, that's the rule.
Just to get an idea of how vacuous it all is, perform a quick thought experiment. Imagine a good R-rated action comedy – for instance Shane Black's The Nice Guys – and replace half of the characters with puppets. It still has the balance between tender character moment and humanism and out of control hedonism, but now with the added insanity of puppets (sometimes) doing drugs and getting their heads blown off. It would achieve the kind of thing Happytime seems to want to achieve without continually shooting itself in the foot.
Nothing makes this more clear than watching how hard Happytime's human cast has to work to try to make up for how unfunny the rest of the film is, and none more so than McCarthy. As the most front and center of the non-Muppet cast McCarthy gets the unenviable job of making all the insanity around her funny and is more wasted than she perhaps ever has been. She does her best trying to add her considerable riffing to any sequence but all this does is play up how dull the scenes she is not in are and how hit and miss even her best material is given what's around her. It's clear even the filmmakers were becoming aware of the issue as puppets increasingly get pushed to the background as Happytime goes on in order to make more room for McCarthy and Maya Rudolph as Phil's loyal secretary with hidden skills.
It would be terrible if it weren't so boring. Though there isn't much in it which is funny that doesn't stop the filmmakers from continually trying to make jokes (or at least their idea of jokes) which, combined with an over convoluted plot, pushes the characters to the edges leaving them uninterested and uninteresting. The result is the longest 90 minutes you are ever likely to sit through.

Harry Potter: 20 Crazy Details About Voldemort’s Body
https://ift.tt/2Ml9ndM - youtube channel Harry Potter: 20 Crazy Details About Voldemort's Body https://ift.tt/2MtyV9A August 24, 2018 at 02:08AM
While he was born Tom Riddle, the most powerful Dark Wizard in the history of magic is better known by the name of Lord Voldemort, although he was so feared that he was mostly known as He Who Must Not Be Named.
Trained at Hogwarts under the watchful eye of Albus Dumbledore, he learned much about the Dark Arts and soon set off on his own to built his own army of followers.
Soon, he amassing more and more power until he became a threat to not only the wizarding world but to all of mankind - wizards and Muggles alike.
However, as his powers grew, his body took on a fascinating transformation, both in appearance and power, making Voldemort one of the most horrifically recognizable villains in modern pop culture history.
While hardcore fans were introduced to him in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series, the rest of the world met him through the movie adaptations, with Ralph Fiennes portraying the Dark Wizard.
By the time the movies and books began, Voldemort was already the darkest evil in the world and soon rose back to power to try to finish his conquest of the Wizarding World, with his sights set on taking down Harry Potter.
However, there are many things about the villain and his body that even the biggest Harry Potter fans don't know.
With that said, here are the 20 Crazy Details About Voldemort's Body.
20 he had SUNKEN EYES because of his connection to THE DARK ARTS
When Tom Riddle began to dabble in the Dark Arts, his appearance started to change over time. The good looks that defined him soon faded.
It all started with his eyes. Though they were at first dark and striking, they soon became sunken and always had the appearance of being blood-shot.
This was due to his dealing with the Dark Arts and the fact that he had started to experiment with Black Magic - something that changed him psychologically and physically.
While Riddle had fooled most of his teachers, though, Dumbledore never fully trusted him and soon realized that the boy was dealing with the Dark Arts.
When Riddle applied to be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, Dumbledore rejected the request and Riddle finally left, changing his name to Voldemort and starting his plans for domination.
19 He was HALF-MUGGLE
If anyone ever wondered why Voldemort hated Muggles as much as he does, it is because he is actually half-Muggle himself and hates that side of his lineage.
He was born to a Muggle named Tom Riddle and the witch named Merope Gaunt, who used a love potion to ensnare the wealthy Riddle.
However, when she decided to test their love by no longer using the potion, Riddle refused to remain with her and left while she was pregnant with their only child.
After the baby was born - and named after his father - Merope passed away and young Tom Riddle was sent to orphanages.
By the time he ended up at Hogwarts, he had developed an intense hatred of Muggles based on the betrayal by his own father.
This helped form the evil darkness that created Voldemort.
18 he didn't NEED A WAND to use magic
As the Harry Potter movies show, wizards need a wand that is specifically built for them in order to cast their spells.
When a wand breaks, as has happened on numerous occasions throughout the movies and books, the wizard or witch is deemed powerless against most attacks.
However, the interesting thing about Voldemort is that he never needed a wand to cast spells, even as a boy.
Before he even knew that he was a wizard, Tom Riddle had figured out that he had special abilities. He could move things with his mind and he could speak to and occasionally control animals.
He used his powers to hurt other children at the orphanage who picked on him. He did all of this just with the power of his mind.
He was extremely powerful without a wand, and was even able to torture two children so badly that no one knows exactly what it was that Riddle did to the kids, as they refused to talk afterwards.
17 he could POSSESS OTHERS
Once Voldemort was defeated after failing to eliminate Harry Potter as an infant, he no longer had a body to return to.
However, he was still alive.Voldemort's years of experimenting with the Dark Arts had created Horcruxes, which dispersed parts of his soul on Earth so that he couldn't truly perish.
When he eliminated James and Lily Potter, part of his soul went into the surviving infant - Harry.
Outside of that, Voldemort remained in existence in a ghostly form. While he could not return in his own body, he was able to possess living creatures and did so with animals on occasion - although he could create little magic as an animal.
It wasn't until Voldemort found and possessed Professor Quirinus Quirrell that he found his way back to the Wizarding World and started to regain power.
16 his EXPERIMENTS DESTROYED his BODY
The fact that Tom Riddle went from being an attractive and confident young man and to becoming Lord Voldemort - a grotesque and terrifying being that presided using fear - shows a huge transformation.
He ended up with a very unique and horrifying appearance and it was reportedly was due to him experimenting with unknown Dark Arts spells, many of which left his body scarred and damaged.
He ended up tall but skeletally thin. His face was pale white and his eyes were large and red. His nose became as flat as a snake's, and he developed slits for his nostrils.
His hands also transformed. He now had long, spider-like fingers with sharp blue fingernails.
His appearance looked very similar to a snake's, and he became demonic and evil at his core.
15 he could FLY WITHOUT SUPPORT
As shown throughout the Harry Potter series, wizards can't fly without support. Most use brooms, which is the classic way for magic users to fly through the sky.
However, there are other magical objects that allow wizards and witches to fly. For example, Hagrid has his flying motorbike and Harry and Ron used a flying car on one occasion.
When the broom breaks or is destroyed, the wizard or witch will usually fall, as they have nothing to keep them suspended in the air.
Unlike other wizards, Voldemort can actually fly without the use of any support.
He trained himself to fly just by using magic and thus he doesn't need the help of a broom.
He also taught this skill to a number of Death Eaters, which is how they were able to swoop in for attacks without using anything to support themselves.
14 he could MODIFY OTHERS' MEMORIES
Voldemort has two major magical powers that help him control other people. These are Occlumency and Legilimency.
Occlumency is the ability to shield ones own mind, while Legilimency refers to the ability to penetrate the minds of others.
By the time Voldemort was an adult, he was arguably the most powerful Legilimens in the entire Wizarding World.
Snape said that Voldemort could not only read minds, but that he could also control them. This means that, if he wished to, he could unhinge the minds of others.
He did this to Harry Potter in the movies when he placed realistic visions in Harry's mind to try to lure him to find his prophecy.
Very few people are strong enough in Occlumency to shield their minds from Voldemort - Snape is one of the only wizards who is able to do this.
13 HE BECAME A HAIRLESS, SCALY CHILD
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, two of Voldemort's followers worked together to help him regain his body. These were the wizard Peter Pettigrew and the snake Nagini.
Pettigrew mixed up a potion for Voldemort using unicorn blood and the venom of Nagini. With this potion, they were able to create a new body for Lord Voldemort to finally return to.
However, this body was not what Voldemort needed to return to his fearful leadership form. Instead, it was that of a scaly, hairless baby.
He was still cunning and smart and knew what needed to be gathered to bring his body back to its full form - a bone from his father, the flesh from one of his servants, and the blood from an enemy.
Pettigrew took the blood from Harry Potter for this.
12 His mind was extremely sharp
While attending Hogwarts, Tom Riddle used his striking appearance to win over many of his teachers, as he was very convincing in his manipulations.
He became one of the top students at the school, and was named both a Prefect and the Head Boy during his time there.
He used his leadership skills and charisma to win over followers, both in school and later as the Dark Lord.
When asked about Tom Riddle, Dumbledore said that he was likely the most brilliant student to ever pass through the doors of Hogwarts, and was possibly only surpassed by Dumbledore himself.
When Riddle left the school and became Voldemort, he proved that to be a fact when he was able to mastermind two of the most devastating wars in Britain's Wizarding World.
11 he was the MOST POWERFUL DARK WIZARD in the world
Before Voldemort, the two greatest wizards in the Harry Potter universe were easily Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.
As a matter of fact, the greatest wizarding battle in history was reportedly one between the good Dumbledore and the dark Grindelwald.
When Voldemort rose to power, he soon surpassed even the power of Grindelwald - who was spending the rest of his life in prison after his capture.
Voldemort has mastered countless Dark Arts spells and is strong enough when casting them to overpower even the most powerful wizards.
For example, he's even able to control Bartemius Crouch Senior for almost half a year.
He also cursed all of the Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers at Hogwarts after he was rejected the job, which involved a spell so powerful that not even Dumbledore could lift it.
10 he was a MASTER DUELIST
While Tom Riddle could use magic without a wand, he was able to gain even more power when he did chose to use his wand.
Once he mastered the wand itself, he gained another advantage in battle.
Voldemort became possibly one of the most skillful duelists in the entire Wizarding World, proving his mastery of the wand time and time again against the best wizards and witches in the world.
Voldemort was able to win duels against Horace Slughorn, Kingsley Shacklebolt, and Minerva McGonagall - all three of these wizards and witches are considered master duelists.
Voldemort also overpowered Alastor Moody and Amelia Bones in fights.
The reason why Voldemort was able to defeat so many wizards and witches was that he was unpredictable and aggressive, which allowed him to change fighting styles without warning.
He also used the Dark Arts, which created an unfair advantage.
9 His Own Spell Destroyed him
When Voldemort learned from Snape that there was a prophesy that would vanquish the Dark Lord, he immediately sought to find out more.
Knowing that a child would be born that could beat him, he set out to eliminate the child - not knowing if it was the half-blooded Harry or the full-blooded Neville, who were both born on the same day.
He went after Harry due to the fact that he and the child had something in common: they were both half-bloods.
When Voldemort showed up and attacked, he took out both James Potter and Lily Potter - the latter of which caused Snape to turn into a double agent out of guilt.
However, Lily cast a protective spell on Harry and therefore Voldemort's Avada Kedavra spell backfired.
This obliterated the Dark Lord on the spot.
8 he lived on UNICORN BLOOD
When Voldemort possessed Professor Quirinus Quirrell, he ordered the professor to drink the blood of unicorns.
These unicorns were found in the Forbidden Forest and there was a specific reason for this demand.
Unicorns possessed healing abilities - and since Voldemort was rendered almost powerless after his Avada Kedavra spell backfired, he needed to heal in order to start regaining his strength.
This was also needed to help keep Quirrell from expiring the longer Voldemort possessed him.
Even after Voldemort returned to full strength in his own body, he was still forced to drink unicorn blood in order to remain alive and strong.
To do so, he was able to create a specific potion using unicorn blood and venom from the snake Nagini.
7 he COULDN'T TOUCH HARRY POTTER
When Lily Potter cast the protective spell on Harry when he was an infant, the Avada Kedavra spell that backfired had another effect.
Voldemort learned that he could not touch Harry without feeling intense pain.
This was proven in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Professor Quirrell - who was still possessed by Voldemort - battled Harry for the Philosopher's Stone. When Quirrel tried to touch Harry, he felt immeasurable pain.
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Voldemort found a way around this. He was able to lead Harry, and along with him Cedric Diggory, to a graveyard where he immediately eliminated Cedric and then turned to Harry.
With the information that he gained from Bertha Jorkins, he made a potion and was able to finally recreate his body using Harry's blood.
This also eliminated Lily's protections, as Voldemort could finally touch Harry without feeling pain.
6 his WAND HAD A MAJOR WEAKNESS
After Voldemort regained his body in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and used the blood of Harry Potter to create a potion that finally allowed him to physically attack the Boy Who Lived, the two had a duel.
While Voldemort was a master duelist who had defeated some of the best wizards and witches in the world, he was unable to beat Harry Potter.
This was because there was another protection set up to save Harry's life.
Voldemort's wand was unable to overpower Harry's wand, which came as quite the surprise to Voldemort.
This was due to the fact that the two wands had the same core - that of Fawkes' phoenix feathers - which meant that neither Voldemort nor Harry could use their wands to hurt the other.
This helped Harry survive, as the shades of his mom, dad, and Voldemort's other victims showed up to help him escape from Voldemort.
5 he could speak PARSELTONGUE
Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter shared a special skill: they are both able to speak and understand Parseltongue.
Harry used this early on when he spoke to a boa constrictor and helped it escape the zoo.
Voldemort used it for more nefarious purposes, though he mostly used it to communicate with his snake servant Nagini.
This power allows wizards and witches to speak to and influence serpents.
Almost all Parselmouths are descendants of Salazar Slytherin, and there are only very rare exceptions - with Harry Potter as the most obvious example, as he gained the ability when Voldemort attacked him when he was a baby - part of Voldemort became a part of Harry.
Speaking Parseltongue is the sign of a dark wizard or witch - although Dumbledore has mentioned that there are a few good individuals who can speak it as well.
4 he couldn't CONTROL HARRY POTTER MENTALLY
While Voldemort could invade the minds of others, implant memories, and control them, he was unable to do so with Harry Potter after a few first attempts.
It actually worked at first when he began to control Harry, but the Boy Who Lived was protected by his parents and the spell that Lily cast on him.
This is because Harry possessed the one thing that Voldemort could never understand: love.
Since Voldemort was born to a mother who used a love spell on his father, he ended up incapable of understanding and feeling any sort of love. If his mother had lived, he might have found redemption.
However, because she passed away, Voldemort never had the ability to comprehend love, instead he was repulsed at the thought of it.
As long as Harry remembered the love of his family and friends, though, Voldemort could not control Harry due to the pain that love caused him when he sensed it.
3 he was a MASTER OF TRANSFIGURATION
Another magical skill that Voldemort possesses is Transfiguration, which is a type of magic that is used to alter the appearance of a body or an object.
This is something that can be done to almost any object.
It is a very difficult spell to cast but one that Voldemort has mastered.
For a wizard to successfully cast this spell, they have to be pretty powerful.
Voldemort proved that he could not only master Transfiguration, but he could also use it for long periods of time.
In Hary Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Voldemort used the spell to transform the snake Nagini into Bathilda Bagshot in order to eliminate Harry if he ever tried to pay her a visit, and he kept Nagini in this form for a long time.
He was also able to turn Dumbledore's fire-rope into a snake and gave Peter Pettigrew a silver forearm to replace the one he lost.
2 He was AN ATTRACTIVE YOUNG MAN
When it comes to Lord Voldemort, most people got to know him after his first defeat, when his body was basically destroyed.
However, as is shown in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, he was not always the noseless and frightening Dark Wizard we recognize today.
As a matter of fact, before changing his name to Voldemort, Tom Riddle was an attractive young man.
J.K. Rowling described him in her books as tall and handsome with pale skin, dark eyes, and jet-black hair. Rowling explained that he looked like his father and had no trace of the Gaunt family in his appearance.
This, of course, all changed when Tom Riddle began to experiment with Dark Magic, which gave him immense power but took a toll on his physical appearance.
1 his SOUL was stuck in limbo after he perished
At the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort thought that he had the perfect weapon to finally defeat Harry and win the war with the Elder Wand.
However, he was unable to win because Harry had captured the wand originally from Draco Malfoy, and was therefore the rightful master of it, causing the spell to reflect back and destroy the Dark Lord once and for all.
Unlike the first time that Voldemort fell, though, there were no Horcruxes left containing bits of his soul to keep him alive.
When a wizard passes on, they enter Limbo, which is where Harry found Dumbledore at the end of the movie.
At this point, they were also able to locate the now fallen Voldemort - and the form that his body took in the afterlife was that of a flayed infant, with nothing of his soul remaining to come back as a ghost or move on to the next plane.
